An Introduction to the Coaching Skills used by Master Coaches
This workshop can be run in-house (occasionally as an Open Workshop)
This is an experiential workshop that demonstrates the advantages of a co-active coaching style compared to other people-development interventions such as teaching, training, mentoring and counselling.
Participant's are shown the main 'tools' utilised by the professional coach’s with the opportunity to practise these skills throughout the day with other members of the group. Finally there is an opportunity to participate in/observe a HOT-SEAT coaching session where the tutor coaches a volunteer participant
Why this workshop
Coaching techniques are a set of skills that enable Leaders/Managers to enhance their ability to motivate and nurture others (by working with intrinsic rather than extrinsic motivational approaches). If you think you are not a leader think again. Obviously a Business Owner or Director is a Leader but so too is a good manager or a caring parent.
More Information
As human beings we simply do NOT respond well to being told what to do (and so we don’t like ‘advice’). “If I were you I’d …” is a real turn off, as is “Why don’t you…” We all need to feel that we have choices and that we have the freedom to choose.
Coaching is a process that enables leaders to help others make their own developmental decisions. To help employees find purpose, passion and direction in their work; to encourage those important first few steps and then to help them move confidently toward their envisaged outcome or destination. Coaching helps people bridge the gap between where they are now and where they want to be. As a Leader you want people to be able to bridge this gap for themselves. To help employees see that it is within their own power and control to achieve success in the workplace (provided they have the support of their Leaders). Coaching embraces a process of logical steps, on-going support, interest and encouragement to achieve desired outcomes. Coaching is NOT about giving advice or suggesting solutions. Coaching assumes that it is within every person to find their own solutions but that they often need encouragement, persistence and support to achieve this.
The workshop is also suitable for a Leader considering a new career direction and wanting to know if ‘coaching' should be part of their personal development toward forging a new career direction.
